Eli Weinger, President

Eli Weinger is a third year in the College of Arts and Sciences studying Government with a concentration in American Politics and later this year he will begin taking classes at the Batten School to pursue a Master’s in Public Policy. He began his time in SERV as a member of the Economic Justice team and later became Head of Legislation. In addition to his work in SERV, Eli works as a Resident Advisor for first-year students and has previously worked with the Hoos Vote initiative and the Center for Politics. In his free time, Eli enjoys reading, stargazing, and spending time with loved ones.

Jordan Phan, Vice President

Jordan Phan graduated from the University of Virginia in 2024 with a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, and is a second year Master of Public Policy candidate at the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy. They started in SERV as a member of the Economic Justice team and have served as Head of Communications and President. Their interests include democracy and election reform; reproductive, maternal, and sexual health policy; and technology and AI policy. Outside of SERV, they are a peer sexual health educator, a Technologist at the Scholar’s Lab Makerspace, and a member of Sigma Omicron Rho.

Maggie Chang, Head of Legislation

Maggie Chang is a second year studying Foreign Affairs with aspirations towards the Batten School. She started her work in SERV on the Environmental Justice team and will serve as the Head of Legislation for the 2024-2025 year. While her biggest passion remains in climate and environmental policy, Maggie is interested in the full scope of SERV’s legislative work, primarily, reproductive and social justice, democracy and election reform, and education policy. Beyond SERV, Maggie serves as the founding Communications and Arts Lead for Sunrise UVa, a new hub for environmental advocacy based in Green New Deal legislation, formerly an organizing lead for the Fossil Fuel Divestment Campaign.

Galen Baird, Head of Communications

Galen Baird is a second year student studying Biochemistry and Computer Science. He joined SERV his first year as a member of the Gun Reform Team, with interests in Gun Reform, Healthcare, and Education Policy. As the Head of Communications, he hopes to increase the external reach of SERV through novel uses of technology, while also providing SERV’s members with new ways to stay informed. Outside of SERV, he serves as a Social co-chair for Brown Residential College at UVA, a researcher in the Pathology department of UVA Medicine, a biannual marathon runner, and a mattress for his two cats.

Alexis Walker, Head of Events

Alexis Walker is a third year student who is studying Cognitive Science, Economics and Public Policy. Currently, she serves as Head of Events ensuring that the SERV calendar is always full of awesome events. Her goals for SERV involve creating a community where people feel they can grow in their understanding of legislation. Outside of SERV, she is DEI chair in UWL (Undergraduate Women in Law) and a docent in training at the Art Fralin Museum.

Riley Fay, Head of Administration

Riley Fay is a fourth year studying Political & Social Thought and History. She joined SERV as a member of the Finance Team and has previously served as the leader of the Education and Gun Reform Teams, respectively. Her interests include democracy reform, education policy, and LGBTQ advocacy. Outside of SERV, she is a University Guide, VP of Baking with Challah for Hunger, a Research Assistant at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture, and works as a server in Charlottesville. In her free time, Riley bakes things to bring to SERV meetings.
